Teaching staff of the medical faculty

The pedagogical staff amounts 408 teachers, with 71 Doctors of Sciences, 59 professors, 124 Ass. Professors, 261 Candidates of Sciences. The pedagogical staff amounts 1 Corresponding member of AMS of Ukraine, 8 Honoured Workers of Science and Technology of Ukraine, 3 Honoured Inventors of Ukraine, 4 Honoured Physicians of Ukraine.

The teaching staff develops the most modern technologies, methodics, performs numerous scientific elaborations, provides the effective educational and treatment processes. Every department has made its own optimal plan of lectures, practical classes and seminars according to the general typical curricula, this being coordinated by the cyclic methodical commission. Since 2005 our students study according to the credit-module system, which will allow to have the diplomas of our University converted in all countries of the European Union. Since 2006 at the University the ‘one-day’ methodic and Z-system of training have been introduced. According to the latter the students during the first years learn clinical aspects together with the theoretical subjects. All-Ukrainian scientific and education conferences held at our University testify general recognition and authority of Ternopil State Medical University.

Practical Class at the Department of Histology and Embriology with Cytology

Most departments have published textbooks and manuals for the students. The University Publishing House “Ukrmedknyha” published 167 textbooks and manuals for the students, among them 12 in English, 53 CDs. The lecture halls are equipped with the modern computers, which allows to use multimedia means during lectures. The total number of computers at the Department amounts 96 computers, which allows to improve the teaching process. Since 2006 the students have started to take complex test computer examinations.

The theoretical departments of the Faculty occupy 4 educational scientific institutes, which are independent structural-functional subdivisions of the University: Institute of Morphology, Institute of Biomedical Problems, Institute of Modeling and Pathologic Processes Analyzing, M.Skakun Institute of Pharmacology, Hygiene and Medical Biochemistry. There are 12 clinical departments. The base of the clinical departments are city and regional medical establishments equipped with the most modern apparatuses. The authority of the University pays a great attention to developing the material base and creating an efficiently working teaching staff.

An experimental assessment of the heart functional state at the practical lesson in Pathologic Physiology

Each department fulfils its own scientific work, the members of the Students' Scientific Society taking part in it. While being students, the future specialists train their professional skills, the auditoria being generally overcrowded at the final scientific conferences of students and young scientists.

The specialists of the faculty carry out their treatment-consultation work at the base departments of the City Hospital, polyclinics and at the Diagnostics Centre of the University. Annually they inculcate into practice numerous new diagnosis-and-treatment methods to improve medical service for the population.

The students' population of the faculty amounts to 1500 persons, all the necessary conditions are provided to train highly qualified young doctors. Students groups consists of 7-12 persons, giving the possibility for individual education. There are 10 lecture-halls equipped with modern demonstration apparatuses. Practical classes and seminars are held in the laboratories and thematic classrooms, clinical training - in the wards and the laboratories of functional and instrumental diagnostics.

Students’ Leisure

It’s traditional at the faculty to conduct students’ holidays, which are organized together with the teaching staff, e.g. anatomical, histological and microbiological brain rings, meetings with famous people, poets, actors, honoured workers of culture, honoured workers of technology etc. The amateur circles are very popular among the students. The ensemble of folk instruments “Luna Karpat” has become the laureate of the republican competition. The first international summer schools were organized by the International relations department on the base of “Chervona Kalyna”. At the summer schools students from the University of South Carolina (the USA), Moscow State University, Kazakh Medical Academy, Shlyonsk Medical Academy (Poland), National Pharmaceutical University (Kharkiv) and 50 students of Ternopil State Medical University, who speak English fluently, participated.
